Midway United Methodist Church:
During last night's Administrative Council meeting, a vote was taken on lifting the COVID protocols that were instituted when the church returned to worship in June of last year. After a great deal of discussion, the vote was unanimous to lift the protocols.
What does this mean for you? First, it means that masks are now optional. They are certainly recommended if you have not received the vaccine or are immune-compromised. And anyone is welcome to wear a mask if they choose. We do ask that you be gracious to one another with this matter; if someone is wearing a mask, please respect that decision and don't say, “You don't have to wear that anymore” as that will simply make them feel defensive or unappreciated.
Second, it means that many of our aspects of worship and ministry will be returning as we are able to implement them. For instance, we need to begin a new list of ushers for our worship services. We also will be working towards returning some of our fellowship times. AA and Girl Scouts will be returning, alongside Happy Hearts and United Methodist Men.
Third, we realize that not everyone is in agreement with this decision. We want to make everyone feel safe, and allow a great worship experience for everyone. We need feedback from those who are concerned about worshiping in person under these new conditions to how we can meet their needs. We have considered have a separate space either in the sanctuary or in the fellowship hall for masks only, but these might not be the best considerations. Please let Hank, the office or Tim Beatty (the Admin Council Chair) know of any suggestions that we might implement.
Please be patient as we begin these changes to our worship and begin again ministries that have been put on hold for over a year. There will be ongoing discussions about some things like Communion, fellowship meals, etc.
Please know that we want you to feel welcomed and comforted in worship. The Admin Council made these decisions based on consultation with the South Georgia Conference, as well as recommendations from state and federal CDC. This was not taken lightly.
I hope to see you all on Sunday, either masked or unmasked as we celebrate Pentecost together. Pentecost is the birth of Christ's church. It seems fitting that we begin a new chapter together on this day as we walk together in faith in Jesus Christ.
In His Love,
